Border Crossing Explained
- Since 2017, mainland China customs asks passengers to step out with their luggage to clear China immigration on the Shenzhen side; you simply rejoin the vehicle after, averaging about 10 minutes.
- Hong Kong immigration on the arrival side is completed inside the vehicle, as before.
- Your driver chooses the least-congested crossing for the time of day and carries all cross-boundary permits, so you are never asked to handle paperwork yourself.
