Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a private car in Jiuzhaigou cost?
Private car with driver in Jiuzhaigou starts from $150 per day. A 2-day tour including Huanglong starts from $350. Airport transfer from Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport (JZH) starts from $60. Prices include vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls, and parking. Park entrance tickets (¥169) and shuttle bus (¥90) are not included.
How do I get to Jiuzhaigou?
The easiest way is to fly to Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport (JZH) from Chengdu, Chongqing, or Xi'an (1-1.5 hr flight), then 1.5 hr drive to the park. Alternatively, take a high-speed train to Songpan (new line opened 2024) then 1 hr drive. Driving from Chengdu takes 8-10 hours via the new expressway - we recommend flying or taking the train for comfort.
How many days do I need in Jiuzhaigou?
We recommend 2 full days: Day 1 - Jiuzhaigou National Park (the park is huge, allow 7-8 hours), Day 2 - Huanglong National Park (4-5 hrs) or Songpan ancient town. One day is possible but rushed - you would only see the main valleys. The park operates on a one-way shuttle system with designated stops.
What is the best time to visit Jiuzhaigou?
Autumn (mid-October to early November) is the most spectacular, with red and golden foliage reflecting in the turquoise lakes. Summer (June-August) is lush green with abundant waterfalls. Winter (December-February) offers frozen waterfalls and fewer crowds but some areas may be closed. Spring is less dramatic. The park is closed Tuesdays for maintenance (except holidays).
Is Jiuzhaigou suitable for elderly travelers?
Yes, Jiuzhaigou is very accessible for elderly travelers. The park has an extensive shuttle bus system that takes you to all major viewpoints, with short walks on boardwalks. Huanglong involves more walking and stairs (2-3 hrs) but there is a cable car option. Our drivers can assist with boarding and alighting, and the itinerary can be adjusted for mobility needs.
Can I combine Jiuzhaigou with Huanglong?
Yes, Huanglong is 2.5 hours from Jiuzhaigou and is commonly combined in a 2-day trip. Huanglong is famous for its colorful travertine pools (similar to Turkey's Pamukkale) and the 3,500m altitude. Note that Huanglong requires more physical effort (stairs) and altitude sickness is possible. We recommend visiting Jiuzhaigou first (lower altitude) then Huanglong.
